A Minnesota mother left her 2-year-old boy in the care of her boyfriend, never suspecting that anything would go wrong. However, when she returned, she discovered a horrific scene that can only be described as every parent’s worst nightmare.

When Minnesota resident Ashley King began dating Quran Jabari Mitchell, she had no idea that his religious foundation would ultimately result in the most devastating consequence. Trusting him with her most precious contribution to this world, she left her 2-year-old son, Joshua Isaiah Lockhart Jr., in Quran’s care. What she returned to find was one of Islam’s many devastating contributions to the world.
The Star Tribune reports that 22-year-old Quran was arrested and charged with the gruesome murder of the toddler left in his care after subjecting the innocent boy to 2 months of abhorrent physical abuse. The Hennepin County medical examiner’s office confirmed that the child succumbed to his horrific injuries at the Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis after Quran delivered “blunt force injuries” in his Crystal home.
Joshua tragically died from severe head wounds and other injuries while in the sole care of Quran just 9 days after his second birthday. An autopsy confirmed that the child sustained fatal head injuries, eye injuries, and substantial bruising on his left arm, shoulder, forehead, cheek, and ear. Quran reportedly beat Joshua to death in an apartment he was renting but had subjected the boy to at least 2 months of unimaginable torture.
Fortunately, Quran was sentenced on December 28 to 40 years in prison, despite entering a plea deal, according to KSTP. Quran pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in exchange for his initial first-degree murder count reduction last month. Additionally, he admitted to exploiting the boy’s vulnerability, abusing a position of authority, invasion of a child’s safety, and particularly cruel murder. As such, his sentence was raised from the typical 14 years to 4 decades.

Quran attempted to convince the police that while he did occasionally physically abuse Joshua, he would hit him with a flip-flop “no more than five times” and was certain that he didn’t hit the toddler too hard. He admitted to beating Joshua since the child mother moved in with him 2 months earlier.
Disturbingly, less than a month before Joshua’s death, Quran had been sentenced to 90 days for a misdemeanor domestic assault conviction. However, the incarceration that would’ve saved young Joshua’s life was postponed by Hennepin County Judge Bruce Peterson.
Although apologists deny it, Islam advocates not only for the beating of disobedient women but children as well. In fact, the prophet Muhammad promoted physical abuse as a mean of indoctrinating children with the Quran.
It was narrated from Ibn ‘Abbaas that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Hang your whip where the members of the household can see it, for that will discipline them.”
Abu Dawood (459) and Ahmad (6650) narrated from ‘Amr ibn Shu’ayb from his father that his grandfather said: The Messenger of Allaah (blessings and peace of Allaah be upon him) said: “Teach your children to pray when they are seven years old, and smack them if they do not pray when they are 10 years old, and separate them in their beds.”
Physical abuse is widely regarded as necessary and acceptable throughout the Muslim world, which is why Islamic scholars also agree with Muhammad’s teaching.
Imam Ja’far as-Sadiq has said: “If needed, don’t inflict more than five or six blows to your child or the servant and these blows should not be too severe.”
I’laam al-Muwaqqi’een (2/23): “It should be known from the father’s behaviour with his children and his disciplining of them that he does not smack anybody whom he smacks except in obedience to Allaah and to his Messenger (blessings and peace of Allaah be upon him), and that the only reason he does that is the child’s best interests, and his keenness to raise him in the prescribed manner, so that the child will not .grow up hating Islamic teachings which he may find difficult, and that he was smacked for not doing them.”
If the Quran prescribes physical violence, the prophet modeled physical violence, and the Muslim world accepts physical violence as a means of appropriate discipline, why wouldn’t any Muslim refrain from inflicting physical violence upon those under their care? This is the culture and religion we are welcoming into our progressive society.
